Reservation platform market share in six European cities
Reservation platform market share is a platform's share of the restaurants that take bookings online. TheFork is the platform found at the most of them in four of the six cities we measured (in Amsterdam only narrowly), from 40% in Amsterdam to 69% in Milan; in Amsterdam, Zenchef and its Formitable brand together are at 38% (sit-down restaurants; bars, cafes, coffee shops, takeaway and fast food are excluded). Sales, strategy and integration teams can use it to see who leads where. The six cities are examples: we can map restaurant booking for any country and any reservation platform.

Key findings in six cities
- Marketplaces. TheFork leads in most cities; OpenTable leads London (44%).
- Several systems. 27% of restaurants that book online run several systems.
- Price. 3% of sit-down restaurants at EUR 0 to 15 per person book online, against 84% at EUR 60 and up.
- Quandoo. In September, weeks before it stopped taking bookings, 6% of booking buttons on map listings in the six cities pointed to Quandoo, which stopped accepting new bookings after 30 September 2026 and is winding down; its site goes offline by 31 December. 24% of those restaurants showed no other booking system.
- White space. 28% of sit-down restaurants at EUR 30+ per person show no booking platform.

TheFork vs OpenTable, city by city: Berlin has no clear leader
TheFork is found at more restaurants than OpenTable in Paris, Barcelona, Amsterdam and Milan. In Berlin there is no clear leader: DISH Reservation is the most common booking tool we found (25%); TheFork and OpenTable are level at 18%.

Own software or marketplace: it depends on the city
- Amsterdam: most use their own booking software (73% vs 42% on a marketplace).
- Berlin: mostly own software (75% vs 34% on a marketplace), through many small tools. There is no clear leader: DISH Reservation is the most common booking tool we found (25%); TheFork and OpenTable are level at 18%. 15% of restaurants that book online take reservations through Foodamigos, a Bonn-based restaurant website and ordering provider.
- Paris: mostly own software: 69% use own software and 56% a marketplace, 24% both.
- Milan and London: mostly marketplace (Milan 71% and London 67%).
- Barcelona: level: 61% on a marketplace and 60% on their own software.
Own booking software outnumbers marketplace widgets on restaurants' own websites in all 6 cities; in Milan and London, where the marketplaces lead, they win through their listings.

6% of booking buttons pointed to Quandoo weeks before it stopped taking bookings
Quandoo announced on 24 March 2026 that it would cease operations; it stopped accepting new bookings after 30 September 2026 and is winding down; its site goes offline by 31 December. 24% of these restaurants showed no other booking system; 76% showed another booking system. More in Quandoo stopped accepting new bookings: where its restaurants already book.

73% show one booking system: four numbers per city
Reservation platforms are changing hands: American Express agreed in June 2026 to acquire TheFork, a deal expected to close by the end of 2026, and a delivery platform completed its acquisition of SevenRooms in June 2025. Four numbers per city: who dominates, the marketplace vs own-software split, switching exposure and white space.
| City | Marketplace | Own-website software | One system found | White space: no online booking found |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Paris | 56% | 69% | 71% | 63% |
| Barcelona | 61% | 60% | 77% | 73% |
| Amsterdam | 42% | 73% | 80% | 66% |

Marketplace, own-website and one-system shares are shares of restaurants that book online. The named restaurants behind every cell are in the restaurant reservation data.
Beyond the six cities. We hold the booking link on the map listing for restaurants across 60+ countries. Across Europe, TheFork is the leading live platform on the booking link in most countries with enough linked restaurants to name a leader. Counting only the buttons on map listings, OpenTable leads Germany and the UK.
Platforms we track: marketplaces, restaurant software and events

At EUR 60 and up, a few platforms serve the top end
In Amsterdam, own booking software climbs from 62% of restaurants that book online at EUR 15 to 30 per person to 85% at EUR 60 and up. In Paris it holds at about two-thirds at both price levels while the marketplaces slip. Elsewhere it does not lead at the top end: in Milan own software rises but only draws level with the marketplaces, in London and Barcelona the marketplaces lead at EUR 60 and up, and in Berlin the share falls.
By platform, SevenRooms and Superb (on a smaller base) restaurants are about twice as likely to charge EUR 60 and up as their cities would predict, Tebi about one and a half times, and CoverManager, Restoo and Zenchef somewhat more likely. DISH Reservation, uReserve, Dojo and resmio serve the everyday end (1% to 3% of their priced restaurants at EUR 60 and up).

What the shares cover
- Sit-down restaurants; bars, cafes, coffee shops, takeaway and fast food are excluded.
- Shares cover the booking tools we could detect, so the true use of online booking is likely higher.
- A listing shows where a restaurant can be booked, not how many bookings it takes.
Frequently asked questions
What is the most used platform for restaurant reservations in Europe?
In Paris, Barcelona, Amsterdam and Milan, TheFork is found at the most restaurants that take online bookings (in Amsterdam only narrowly). In London, OpenTable leads. In Berlin there is no clear leader: DISH Reservation is the most common booking tool we found (25%); TheFork and OpenTable are level at 18%.
How is reservation platform market share measured?
It is a platform's share of the restaurants that take bookings online in a city, combining several public sources per restaurant. A restaurant can use several platforms, so the shares overlap.
Can this data support due diligence on a reservation platform?
Yes, as an outside-in view: per city it shows how many restaurants a platform is found at, how that compares with rivals, how many of them use no other system, and how many restaurants take no online bookings. It does not show bookings, revenue or contracts.
Which booking platform should a POS or payments company integrate with first?
Start with the platform found at the most restaurants in your target cities, then check how many of them use no other system. The city table on this page gives the shares, and the named lists show which of your customers each integration would reach.

For sales leaders: the business case
A share answers three questions:
- Where to grow: cities with a low share for you and a large no-booking-found group.
- Where you are attacked: restaurants on you and a rival at once.
- Named lists: behind every percentage is a list of named restaurants, delivered as a list or CSV export.
