Quandoo stopped accepting new bookings: where its restaurants already book

Quandoo stopped accepting new bookings: where its restaurants already book

In September, Quandoo's Book button still sat on restaurant listings across Europe and Asia-Pacific. We checked where those restaurants already book, in six cities.

The six cities are examples: we can map restaurant booking for any country and any reservation platform.

In September, weeks before it stopped taking bookings, restaurants across Europe and Asia-Pacific still showed Quandoo's Book button on their map listings. Quandoo stopped accepting new bookings after 30 September 2026 and is winding down; its site goes offline by 31 December. To see where those restaurants already book, and which have nothing else, we checked the sit-down restaurants in Paris, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Milan, Berlin and London.

    Key findings

    1. Quandoo. Of the restaurants whose booking button on their map listing pointed to Quandoo in September, weeks before it stopped taking bookings, 76% already showed another booking system, most often TheFork (70% of them).
    2. Marketplaces. TheFork leads in most cities (in Amsterdam only narrowly); OpenTable leads London (44%).
    3. Own software. Own booking software outnumbers marketplace widgets on restaurants' own websites in all 6 cities.
    4. Price. 3% of sit-down restaurants at EUR 0 to 15 per person book online, against 84% at EUR 60 and up.
    5. White space. 28% of sit-down restaurants at EUR 30+ per person show no booking platform.

    1. Where Quandoo's restaurants already book: most often TheFork

Quandoo, the Berlin-based restaurant reservation platform owned by Japan's Recruit Holdings since 2015, announced on 24 March 2026 that it would cease operations. It stopped accepting new bookings after 30 September 2026 and is winding down; its site goes offline by 31 December (Quandoo's notice, archived April 2026 and October 2026). In September, weeks before it stopped taking bookings, 6% of booking buttons on map listings in the six cities pointed to it. In the six cities, 24% of those restaurants showed no other online booking system and 76% showed another booking system. Among those that already show another system: Amsterdam TheFork 83%, Zenchef 32%, OpenTable 10%; Milan TheFork 91%, OpenTable 15%, DISH Reservation 14%; Berlin TheFork 40%, DISH Reservation 30%, OpenTable 19%. Several are possible per restaurant.

    2. TheFork leads in most cities; OpenTable leads London

TheFork is the marketplace found at the most restaurants in Paris (52% of the restaurants that book online), Barcelona (54%), Amsterdam (40%, with Zenchef and its Formitable brand together at 38%) and Milan (69%). In Berlin there is no clear leader: DISH Reservation is the most common booking tool we found (25%); TheFork and OpenTable are level at 18%. TheFork's own listings also turn over: 5% of its six-city listings were new since late July 2026.

A restaurant can use several platforms.

    3. On their own websites, restaurants favour own software

Marketplaces bring restaurants diners; own-website software gives them their own guest list. Own booking software outnumbers marketplace widgets on restaurants' own websites in all 6 cities; in Milan and London, where the marketplaces lead, they win through their listings.

    • Amsterdam: most use their own booking software (73% vs 42% on a marketplace).
    • Berlin: mostly own software (75% vs 34% on a marketplace), through many small tools. There is no clear leader: DISH Reservation is the most common booking tool we found (25%); TheFork and OpenTable are level at 18%. 15% of restaurants that book online take reservations through Foodamigos, a Bonn-based restaurant website and ordering provider.
    • Paris: mostly own software: 69% use own software and 56% a marketplace, 24% both.
    • Milan and London: mostly marketplace (Milan 71% and London 67%).
    • Barcelona: level: 61% on a marketplace and 60% on their own software.

    4. Price decides who books online

The share of sit-down restaurants taking online bookings climbs from 3% at EUR 0 to 15 per person to 30% at EUR 15 to 30, 67% at EUR 30 to 60 and 84% at EUR 60 and up. Across the six cities, own booking software sits at 61%, 65% and 64% of restaurants that book online from EUR 15 a head up; at EUR 60 and up it leads the marketplaces only in Paris and Amsterdam. 5. 27% of restaurants that book online run several systems

73% of restaurants that book online were found on one booking system, but "one system found" is a ceiling on lock-in, not a contract. Across the six cities, 7% of restaurants that book online sit on both marketplaces.

At EUR 60 and up, own software leads only in Paris and Amsterdam

In Amsterdam, own booking software climbs from 62% of restaurants that book online at EUR 15 to 30 per person to 85% at EUR 60 and up. In Paris it holds at about two-thirds at both price levels while the marketplaces slip. Elsewhere it does not lead at the top end: in Milan own software rises but only draws level with the marketplaces, in London and Barcelona the marketplaces lead at EUR 60 and up, and in Berlin the share falls. Some platforms specialise in that top end: SevenRooms restaurants are 2.2x as likely to charge EUR 60 and up as their cities would predict, Zenchef 1.4x, while DISH Reservation, uReserve, Dojo and resmio serve the everyday table.

    Why now

In June 2026 American Express agreed to acquire TheFork from Tripadvisor for USD 700 million in cash. A definitive agreement was signed in August 2026, and the deal is expected to close by the end of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals (Tripadvisor filing). a delivery platform completed its acquisition of SevenRooms in June 2025. In July 2025 Zenchef and CoverManager announced a merger under a common holding company backed by PSG. Both brands continue to operate (Maddyness).

    What to do with this

    • Start from restaurants at EUR 30+ per person with no booking platform found. That is where the best-qualified new customers are.
    • Call the dead-Quandoo-only restaurants first. They have to choose a new system now.
    • Sell across the line: own-website software where marketplaces lead, marketplace reach where own software leads.

Strategy, M&A and integration teams can use four numbers per city: who dominates, the marketplace vs own-website split, switching exposure and white space.

Behind every share in this article is a list of named restaurants. See the restaurant reservation data or the market share by city, and the rest of the section on restaurant tech data. Get the next edition for your city: book a demo.

Sit-down restaurants; bars, cafes, coffee shops, takeaway and fast food are excluded. Shares cover the booking tools we could detect, so the true use of online booking is likely higher. A listing shows where a restaurant can be booked, not how many bookings it takes.
